A Message From The Head of Midwifery at Bedford Hospital Trust.

For the foreseeable future all scheduled antenatal care, which is usually provided in a GPs surgery, will be provided from local children’s centres.

Community midwives have acquired lists of women booked in for antenatal care at the surgeries and they will be contacting women in due to course reallocate appointments to a Children’s centre. Due to the volume of calls required this may take a couple of weeks to work through. We plan to contact all women at least one week prior to their next appointment to confirm the new arrangements.

This temporary arrangement will not affect care of women booked for birth at other hospitals, therefore antenatal care will be provided for those women in the usual way. There is no need to signpost women to the Lister or Milton Keynes as care will be provided by Bedford community midwives.

If a newly pregnant woman requests an appointment to see a midwife, please ask them to contact the midwifery team using this email address: bhn-tr.communityancreferral@nhs.net to arrange an appointment (this is our preferred method of contact). If they are unable to email us they can contact us on the telephone numbers below.

If pregnant women require any advice or have a query they can contact the community midwifery team Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 on the telephone numbers below.
